Artistic view of the graphite structure and the light induced onto the system. (IMAGE)
Caption
Exposing graphite to an intense ultrashort mid-infrared laser pulse induces a highly conductive light-matter hybrid phase as optically excited electrons strongly couple to coherent optical phonons. The observations of such a strongly optically driven many-body state becomes possible by studying the lifetime of the excited electronic states with a attosecond soft-X-ray pulse."
