Brookhaven Lab biologist Sanket Anaokar is the first author on a paper describing ways to get plants to accumulate more oil by protecting a protein that keeps oil from being broken down. The scientists demonstrated increased oil accumulation in tobacco leaves (foreground), but the strategy could potentially be applied in oil-crop plants such as sorghum (background).
