The pile field at the site of Dispilio (IMAGE)
Caption
The pile field at the site of Dispilio. Almost 800 piles, mostly made of juniper and oak wood, were sampled and dendrochronologically measured. This data forms the basis for the high-precision dating of this site. Dispilio is the first archaeological site to be dated to a precise year using the Miyake event of 5259 BC.
