Currently, the demand for organ transplantation outpaces the supply of available organs (IMAGE)

A new study by researchers from Japan suggests that implementing extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) for cardiac arrests, followed by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation discontinuation, may address organ shortage. The researchers found that recipients from ECPR-treated donors and recipients from non-ECPR-treated donors show comparable graft survival rates (except for lungs).
