How we recognize words (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers at the University of Iowa have established the various approaches by which people recognize words. In a new study, the researchers tested how people outfitted with cochlear implants, such as this patient pictured, identified a series of words from similar-sounding competitiors. The researchers found people regardless of hearing abilities used the same general approaches to recognize language.
