This work served as a precursor to a National Science Foundation-supported study led by Hugo Gutierrez-Jurado, Ph.D. (not pictured), associate professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso, investigating the impact of climate change on dryland agricultural ecosystems such as pecan orchards in the Chihuahuan Desert region.
