Schematic of trained innate immunity and the generation of osteoclasts (IMAGE)
Caption
ß-glucan induces trained osteoclastogenesis, typified by changes in bone marrow osteoclast precursors and monocytes that predispose them to generate osteoclasts. This shift toward enhanced inflammatory osteoclastogenesis leads to increased inflammatory bone loss in periodontitis, arthritis, and possibly other bone loss disorders.
