Comparison of cell surviving fraction. For the same irradiation conditions (cells, LET, oxygen concentration, and dose), the number of surviving cells is higher (sparing effect) for the ultra-high dose rate (uHDR, red) than for the normal dose rate (NDR, blue). The difference in the number of colonies is also evident in the petri dish photograph (right).
