Illustration of HEWFERS phases where recording stations 1, 2, …, and n are laid within the area: Phase I (only the first station received 10 s of waves and the waves have not arrived at the target nth station), and Phase II (initial 10 s of seismic waves are recorded at the target nth station). The left-hand side of the figure outlines Phase I which activates immediately after the earthquake rupture onsets. The right-hand side of figure depicts Phase II, which commences when the seismic waves reach the target nth station. This two-phased approach allows HEWFERS to offer timely, accurate early earthquake warnings and intensity estimates, both on-site and regionally, enhancing community preparedness and response.
