Researchers identify iFerroptosis: An integrated gene signature indicating hepatic ferroptosis (IMAGE)
Caption
Iron is well-known as an inducer of ferroptosis–a type of cell death triggered by iron-mediated lipid peroxidation. Despite its role in ferroptosis, an iron overload-induced ferroptosis animal model has not yet been established. Now, researchers from Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan, have established this model by feeding FBXL5 liver-KO mice with a high-iron diet. Transcriptomic analysis of liver tissues from these mice revealed a characteristic gene signature indicating ferroptosis. This gene signature was validated in both mice and human liver injury systems, highlighting a potential biomarker for hepatic ferroptosis.
