A light-driven outward proton-pumping rhodopsin Archaerhodopsin 3 (AR3) is transfected into mouse cancer cell lines. AR3 absorbs green light, inducing intracellular alkalization and thereby causing cell death. This indicates a possible mechanism for optical cancer therapy. © 2025, American Chemical Society
