Atomic switches to realize the development of molecular electronic devices (IMAGE)
Caption
The atomic switch operates by forming and breaking a tiny silver filament inside a thin film of tantalum oxide. When a positive voltage is applied, silver atoms move to create a conductive bridge between two electrodes, turning the switch “on.” Reversing the voltage causes the filament to break, turning the switch “off.”
