Left part: Mean abundance of invertebrates found in Dicuspiditermes spp. unoccupied mounds in primary lowland dipterocarp rainforest and in forest disturbed by logging. Green indicates mound material samples; orange represents the same volume of soil taken from adjacent (control) areas. Middle part: Illustration of a termite mound with visible internal structure and a depiction of the sampling procedure. Animals were handpicked from a consistent volume of soil, totaling 188.4 cm³. Right part: The collected animals were identified to higher taxonomic levels, and in the case of the most abundant taxon—Formicidae (ants)—to the species level.
