Reconstruction of two-dimensional turbulence from partial information using data assimilation (IMAGE)
Caption
The top row depicts a turbulent flow obtained from a direct numerical simulation (DNS) that fully resolves all scales of motion. The middle row represents incomplete observations in which small-scale details were deliberately removed. The bottom row is a flow reconstructed using data assimilation and the information from the middle row. Over time, the reconstructed field becomes visually very close to the DNS reference, including fine structures that were never directly observed.
