Building molecular ladders for next-generation organic electronic materials (IMAGE)
Caption
This figure illustrates how researchers at Saitama University developed a strategy to build one additional thiophene ring onto an existing thiophene framework while controlling the orientation of the sulfur atom. To demonstrate the power of the method, they synthesized a complete set of ladder-type oligothiophenes covering every possible sulfur orientation. Such precisely defined molecular structures could broaden the design of organic semiconductors and other functional molecular materials.
