Spent coffee grounds improve lithium orthosilicate ceramic sorbents in three complementary ways. Their thermal decomposition creates a hierarchical porous structure for faster CO2 transport. Potassium from the residual mineral ash promotes the formation of low-melting carbonate phases, while the local oxygen-deficient environment generates oxygen vacancies that strengthen CO2 adsorption.
