Inexpensive, environmentally friendly building stabilization might begin with sand, according to a recent study published in the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering. Sand-filled dampers could provide a cheaper, more sustainable alternative to traditional, viscous-liquid-filled dampers, a new Ole Miss civil engineering professor and researcher says.
