Two carbazole ligands L1, L2 possessing different angles were synthesized, which react with different building units endowed with specific dimension and conjugation, resulting in a molecular-tweezer-like compound, a snowflake-shaped folded assembly, an 818 knot and a closed three-link chain. The angle of ligand is the main reason for the formation of interlocking and non-interlocking structure. And the photothermal conversion studies displayed that closed three-link chain exhibited the highest conversion rate and significant cycling performance due to multiple stacking and the free radical effect of building unit.
