Proposed model for substrate handoff from SurA to the BAM complex

The cryo-electron microscopy structures determined in this study suggest that SurA undergoes dynamic conformational changes at the BAM complex. These rearrangements of the SurA Core domain mediated by the SurA P1 and P2 domains enable SurA to bind unfolded outer membrane proteins and move them toward BAM.
