The microglia replacement by bone marrow transplant (Mr BMT) technique results in lasting, systemic macrophage replacement in peripheral organs while preserving normal organ function. (IMAGE)

Scientists from Fudan University demonstrated that the Mr BMT technique enables systemic replacement of tissue-resident macrophages. Despite macrophage and tissue differences across multiple organs, core biological functions and innate immune responses remain preserved, supporting long-term maintenance of organ function and the therapeutic potential of this strategy.
