How neurons build their identity in the first hours of life (VIDEO)
Caption
Stowers Institute researchers created a first-of-its-kind developmental brain atlas that maps both gene activity and the DNA switches controlling it across 232,251 cells. The study reveals that neurons do not simply inherit a finished identity from their parent stem cells. Instead, that identity is actively established during a brief window immediately after the neuron is born.
