Solar-driven seawater splitting offers a sustainable pathway for hydrogen production, yet its practical application has been hindered by sluggish kinetics and chloride interference. This work introduces a noble-metal-free MnOx(OH)y/GaN nanowire photocatalyst that turns the chloride ions in natural seawater from a detriment into an asset. By leveraging a dynamic OH-exchange mechanism and chloride-assisted charge separation, the system achieves efficient and stable overall seawater splitting without sacrificial agents, using only sunlight and seawater. This design provides a cost-effective and scalable solution for green hydrogen generation in real-world marine environments.
