Giant fluctuations of focused light (IMAGE)
Caption
Giant fluctuations of focused light in complex scattering media. (a) In the single-scattering regime, light experiences relatively weak scattering as it propagates through the medium, resulting in small fluctuations in the enhancement factor. (b) In the multiple-scattering regime, repeated scattering generates long-range mesoscopic correlations between optical pathways, leading to giant fluctuations in the enhancement factor. These enhanced fluctuations provide a sensitive statistical signature of mesoscopic wave transport.
