UC Berkeley researchers used AI and data science to organize an unprecedented amount of local laws from around the country. The dataset makes it easier to compare laws between communities and is intended to be a resource for policymakers, journalists and the general public. “We’ve built a new kind of telescope — one pointed at governance itself,” said Diag Davenport, an assistant professor of technology policy, governance and society at Berkeley and lead researcher on the project.
