Schematic overview of the low-temperature synthesis and structural evolution of nanoporous β-SiC by liquid metal dealloying. Selective removal of Mn from the layered Mn5SiC precursor in molten Bi leads to a three-dimensional network of interconnected β-SiC nanoplates at 800°C. First-principles calculations support the energetic feasibility of the structural rearrangement.
