DNA motion model (IMAGE)
Caption
Bulk local DNA motion (H2B-Halo nucleosomes) remains nearly constant from G1 through G2, although DNA content and nuclear volume increase during interphase. Local DNA in euchromatin (H3.3-Halo nucleosomes) is more mobile, and this motion difference is maintained throughout interphase. Local DNA motion can be transiently increased by perturbations, such as DNA damage, replication stress, or transcription inhibition. This near-constant but tunable local motion may provide similar physical conditions for housekeeping genome functions during interphase.
