Enzymatic and chemical conversion of α-linolenic acid into saclipins (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers demonstrate the enzymatic and chemical conversion of α-linolenic acid into saclipins. AsLOX2 regioselectively oxygenates α-linolenic acid at two distinct positions to produce 9,16-diHPOTE. The resulting hydroperoxide is chemically reduced to 9,16-diHOTE and subsequently oxidized to form saclipins A and B, UV-absorbing compounds produced by Aphanothece sacrum.
