Active Regions Galore (IMAGE) Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf Caption The sun sported about a dozen active regions over a five-day period in May 2015. The bright, spindly strands that extend out of these active regions are particles spinning along magnetic field lines that connect areas of opposite polarity.
