Preclinical research includes genetics, models of disease, and targeted delivery systems. Preclinical research then informs and stimulates clinical research. Clinical research funding should emphasize clinical trials with participants that reflect the demographics and social and economic backgrounds of people with kidney disease, demonstration projects to reduce health disparities, and implementation science.
