Afib? There's an App for That (IMAGE)
Caption
While many of us reach for our tablets to scan Facebook or watch Netflix, researchers are testing their potential for a more serious task: detecting atrial fibrillation. They'll enroll up to 300 people to test a technology that uses the camera in tablets to capture changes in heartbeat by measuring subtle variations in skin tone. Their goal: create an inexpensive, easy-to-use app that alerts physicians of the onset of afib, allowing for early treatment.
