Researchers at Boston University used a truncated version of Apolipoprotein A-I, shown here, to determine conclusively that the protein needs to bind to lipid transporter ABCA1 to begin to form high-density lipoproteins, the "good cholesterol" particles that transport cholesterol to the liver for disposal.
