Stephen Liggett, MD, of the University of South Florida Health (USF Health) led a multi-institutional research team that studied 40 million compounds to identify those that activated beta-2 receptor agonists without causing tachyphylaxis (drug desensitization). The preclinical research suggests that a different class of beta-agonists, known as biased agonists, offers promise for selectively treating asthma and other obstructive lung diseases.
