"Vaping among youth is still worryingly high,” says UNC Hussman James Howard and Hallie McLean Parker Professor Seth M. Noar, PhD, first author, director of UNC Hussman’s Communicating for Health Impact (CHI) Lab, and a UNC Lineberger member. “The 2022 data just released by the CDC indicate that more than 2.5 million middle and high school kids nationwide — over 14% of all US teens — continue to vape, putting them at risk for a lifetime of nicotine addiction. The results of our study indicate that communicating about the health harms and addiction risks of vaping is an evidence-based strategy that discourages youth from vaping.”
