Microscopic images of lab-grown mini-retinas, so called human retina organoids. The left image shows a section of a healthy (control) organoid, whereas the right image shows an organoid section with pathological changes. On the right, there is a massive loss of photoreceptor neurons that are labeled in green. The red color shows the pathological Müller glia cells that are not present in the healthy control.
