Tendon Enthesis (IMAGE)
Caption
If torn, the paper-thin tissue that connects tendon to bone (the enthesis) cannot heal itself, which limits the success of surgical repairs of torn shoulder and knee tendons. The Stavros Thomopoulos laboratory in Columbia's Department of Orthopedic Surgery is trying to harness stem cells to regenerate the tissue and improve surgical success rates.
