The spotted lanternfly is a prolific invasive insect reviled for the destruction it causes to fruit trees and native hardwood trees. First found in Pennsylvania in 2014, the pest has since spread to more than 100 counties across 10 states. A new study finds that this spread is largely attributed to human-mediated dispersal via transportation.
