Dentition of a modern baboon (IMAGE)
Caption
Dentition of a modern baboon (Papio ursinus). These savanna dwelling omnivores provide a prime analogous model for early hominin evolution. They evolved and radiated in parallel with hominins within a similar landscape and time frame. Tina Lüdecke and her colleagues use tooth enamel from dentitions like this to develop the new method.
