This study demonstrates that social and educational indicators strongly affect the population decline rate. This indicates that municipalities with more investment in education for children tend to experience slower rates of population decline. The impact of educational indicators is more substantial than that of economic indicators, such as the financial strength index. Such educational indicators include the “number of children per teacher in elementary school” and the “number of students per educational computer in schools.”
