A new player unveiled for lipid oxidation (IMAGE) Higher Education Press Caption The sympathetic nervous system releases the neurotransmitter norepinephrine (NE) and activates the β3 adrenergic receptor (Adrb3) pathway for lipid hydrolysis and oxidation in response to cold exposure. This upregulates thermogenic genes, including uncoupling protein 1 (Ucp1), which mediates the thermogenic process. Additionally, OGFr enhances the production of the mitochondrial trifunctional protein subunit α (MTPα) and interacts with it, promoting fatty acid oxidation. Methionine-enkephalin (MetEnk), the ligand for Ogfr, can be derived from stromal cells.
