Principles of the multi-dimensional band structure spectroscopy (IMAGE)

a, Schematic of the experimental platform of a photonic resonator under dynamical modulation. The modulation includes both t and Mt frequency components, where is the free spectral range of the resonator. b, Creation of the two-dimensional lattice in the synthetic frequency dimension. The t and Mt modulation frequencies induce the nearest-neighbor and long-range couplings among the frequency modes, respectively, which can be interpreted as couplings along x and y directions in a two-dimensional lattice. c, Band structure measurement over the entire two-dimensional Brillouin zone. Black dots represent experimental results, and the gray sheet shows the theoretical values.
