Different categories of RISs applied in mobile communication systems. including (IMAGE)
Caption
(a) Units in a passive RIS only have the reflection mode and cannot amplify the incident wave. (b) A selection-type hybrid RIS has a few active sensors. A switch is needed to make selection between an RF chain and its possibly connected active sensor. (c) For a beamforming-type hybrid RIS, analog beamforming is performed before signals received by the active sensors being combined at the RF chains. (d) Units in an active RIS have the reflection mode and signal amplification capability. Art by Yu Han.
