The LITE-1 protein of Caenorhabditis elegans (IMAGE)
Caption
The novel LITE-1 photosensor protein of the Caenorhabditis elegans nematode responds as a danger sensor to UV and blue light. LITE-1 is a light-gated ion channel and the second form of light-gated ion channel discovered to date, after the long-known rhodopsin channel of algae.
