Newsroom Credentialing

Virtual and in-person access to the 2022 AAAS Annual Meeting Newsroom resources and news briefings are freely available to all career science and health journalists and communicators, with appropriate credentials. 

Who are eligible for complimentary Newsroom Registration?

Working journalists, public information officers (PIOs), journalism professors and journalism students qualify for complimentary registration to the 2022 AAAS Annual Meeting.

IMPORTANT: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all credential processing will be conducted via the on-line registration site, and all in-person attendees are required to be fully vaccinated. Read the complete policy for vaccination requirement at AAAS Events here.

Walk-in registration will not be accepted, though newsroom attendees can register online as late as the last day of the meeting.

Who are not eligible for complimentary Newsroom Registration?

Newsroom access will not be issued to representatives of lobbying, special interest, or advocacy organizations. Similarly, scientists, scientific journal editors, advertising or marketing professionals, and investment analysts must register as general attendees and pay the registration fee. 

"I am a scientist, lobbyist or investment analyst, but I also have a newsletter and a webpage where I help to communicate science to the public. May I register as Press?"

No. To receive complimentary Newsroom Registration, you must be a career science journalist or communicator whose primary occupation is journalism or science communication. Scientists or investment analysts who also communicate science are not eligible for complimentary newsroom registration. Okay, I am a career science journalist or communicator. How do I register?


All journalists and career science and health communicators who are NASW or AHCJ members and who meet the credentialing criteria will receive complimentary newsroom access. Please register here.



If you are a career science communicator but not a member of NASW or AHCJ, please provide the following credentials by sending an email to with:


  • Journalists
    A photo of a business card clearly showing your media affiliation and position, or a current recognized press card.


    A link to a recent bylined article written by you.


  • Science communicators (Public Information Officers
    A photo of a business card clearly showing your position (e.g. communications officer, editor, writer, public affairs director, public information specialist)


    Recent materials distributed to the press (news releases, media advisories or tip sheets on which you are listed as the contact)


  • Journalism Professors and Journalism Students
    Journalism professors may register online for their own complimentary access to the meeting.

    Journalism professors must email a letter on their institution’s letterhead to to sponsor their students' complimentary access to the meeting. The letter should include the names and email addresses for all students who will require newsroom access.

    Journalism students can register here after their professor has emailed the list of student names and email addresses.
