Quantum mechanics does not prove the existence of miracles. And nor does it justify a belief in telepathy. However, the subject is open to such abuses because it is so poorly understood. This book aims to dispel the mysticism sometimes associated with quantum mechanics. The author, a well-known theoretical physicist, also succeeds in demystifying some of the hard-to-grasp concepts of quantum physics, though he does not claim to offer final answers to every tension it creates, for example with the theory of relativity. This delightful and clear book invites readers to play close attention to what is proven in experiments, rather than to what is sometimes asserted in loose talk.
The author Jean Bricmont is a theoretical physicist and a professor at the Université Catholique de Louvain. He works on statistical and mathematical physics but has also written about philosophy of science.
