Bristol Vet School awarded American Veterinary Medical Association accreditation

The University of Bristol Veterinary School has been awarded full accreditation of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Bristol's Veterinary School is now one of only seven veterinary schools with AVMA accreditation in Europe.

The AVMA accreditation is based on a rigorous evaluation of educational standards, research, teaching, student experience and clinical delivery and the Vet School's newly accredited status reflects the high standards it upholds.

Alongside the Vet School's other accreditations, the AVMA accreditation means that graduates of Bristol's five-year BVSc degree will be able practise veterinary medicine anywhere in the world (from July 2019 onwards and subject to completion of the NAVLE exam for work in the USA and Canada).

The AVMA is also a mark of quality assurance to let the public, veterinary practices and students know that their education is compliant with agreed benchmarks and standards.

The AVMA certification adds to Bristol's impressive list of existing accreditations which comprise the the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), The Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) and the South African Veterinary Council.

Professor Richard Hammond, Head of Bristol Veterinary School, said: "We are delighted to have received the AVMA accreditation. This recognition is testament to the world-leading teaching, research, state-of-the-art facilities and overall student experience offered at Bristol Veterinary School.

"It is also excellent news for our students who have the added opportunity to make vital contributions to veterinary medicine on a global scale."
