UMass Lowell prof to present TEDx talk on 'Breaking Barriers'

WHAT: Archana Kamal, UMass Lowell physics professor and internationally known expert on quantum information technologies, will co-present a free TEDx talk on the next quantum revolution as part of the TEDx "Breaking Barriers" webinar series.

The series features women experts speaking on a range of fields, from social justice and activism to space exploration, science, technology, education, business and medicine.

In addition to excellence in teaching, Kamal has been recognized for her research, including as one of MIT Technology Review's Innovators Under 35 as a visionary for her work to solve a critical issue in how quantum computers will communicate with their traditional counterparts.

The TEDx talk, "Coming of age with quantum mechanics" will highlight what is being called the second quantum revolution, powered by quantum information technologies that are helping scientists control quantum effects and make usable and powerful computing machines, said Kamal.

The event will pair Kamal with Prof. Shohini Ghose, a quantum physicist from Wilfred Laurier University in Canada. The talk will be presented in conversation with Jonathan Rives, a frequent TEDx contributor.
