SAN ANTONIO -- May 10, 2021 -- Svitlana Kroll, a principal scientist in Southwest Research Institute's Powertrain Engineering Division, has been selected to receive the Forest R. McFarland Award, presented by SAE International, whose mission is to advance mobility knowledge and solutions for the benefit of humanity.

The award was established to honor the late Forest R. McFarland for his many contributions to SAE and recognizes outstanding contributions to furthering the goals of SAE's engineering events. SAE recognized Kroll for her "support and service on the SAE European Automobile Engineers Cooperation committee, the efficiency brought to training sessions and her work as a session organizer and reviewer."

Kroll joined the Institute in 2008. She specializes in developing, validating and conducting analysis of gaseous and particulate emissions from mobile sources, including the hydrocarbon speciation of exhaust emissions from diesel, gasoline and alternative fuels. Kroll manages projects related to fuel and fuel additive registration, effects of alternative fuels on engine and aftertreatment systems and evaluating unconventional fuels.

Kroll holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and master's degrees in education and chemistry from Simferopol State University in Ukraine. She holds a patent from earlier research and development activities at Axelgaard Manufacturing Company in Fallbrook, California.
