Model showing the release of phosphate in different parts of the actin filament. (IMAGE)
Caption
Actin subunits in the core of the wild-type actin have a rather closed backdoor whereas the backdoor in the ultimate subunits is open and phosphate can be released quickly. Mutation in the actin filament leads to an open back door in the core actin-subunits.
