Macrovegetation habitats in Lake Tisza (IMAGE) Hun-Ren Ökológiai Kutatóközpont Caption Lake Tisza (Kisköre Reservoir) is the second largest standing water in Hungary and in the Carpathian Basin. As part of both national protection and the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, the conservation of bird habitats and nesting sites is a priority here. For this reason, this lake is plagued by water quality problems from time to time, due to the eutrophication in the highly protected basin characterized by the highest occurrence of birds. Extended macrovegetation provides heterogeneous habitats for aquatic assemblages. Characteristic species of Lake Tisza. Trapa natans can form huge patches, while Nymphea alba is a companion species in these fields. Credit Photo: Gabriella Bodnár Usage Restrictions Credit must be given to the creator.
