Researchers from Okayama University have employed advanced X-ray techniques to investigate and understand the process of water splitting in photosynthesis, where water is broken down into oxygen and hydrogen. The term "pump-probe" indicates a method where one laser pulse (the pump) initiates a reaction, while another laser pulse (the probe) measures the subsequent changes, allowing scientists to capture the dynamics of the PSII process in real time.
